Cannabis

“THCa” is the abbreviation for “tetrahydrocannabinolic acid”, a cannabinoid produced naturally by the cannabis plant. THCa does not produce intoxication; however, under certain conditions, including heat, exposure to light, and time, it can convert to delta-9 THC, which does have an intoxicating effect. The conversion from THCa to delta-9 THC is known as “decarboxylation” and occurs when THCa flower is smoked or vaped.

What is THCa? | THCa vs Delta 9 | 100% Federally Legal Cannabis

Decarboxylation, often achieved through the use of heat, is the chemical reaction that transforms THCa into Delta 9 THC. This process is the central element to the intoxicating “high” feeling associated with cannabis.

Delta 9 THC is the psychoactive compound known for inducing a high, while THCA, primarily found in raw cannabis, is non-psychoactive and requires decarboxylation to convert into THC. After the decarboxylation process, THCA becomes THC, meaning there are no discernible differences between the two. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived products that contain <0.3% Delta 9 per net weight, but did not specify THCa levels, which means THCa products offer the typical cannabis experience as Delta 9 THC.

Depending on quality, quantity, and other factors, both Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC can produce intoxicatingly psychoactive effects, or a “high.” Despite their similarities, Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC also have important differences you should understand.

Delta 8 is usually present in smaller amounts in cannabis plants, and as a result, concentrated amounts of Delta 8 THC are typically manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD). It is psychoactive but is reported to produce a milder and more clear-headed high compared to Delta 9 THC. Some users describe the effects of Delta-8 THC as being less anxiety-inducing and more suitable for daytime use.

Delta 9 is the major naturally-occurring intoxicating component of the cannabis plant. Delta 9 is roughly twice as potent and induces a more intense cerebral “high” than Delta 8.

“HHC” is the abbreviation for hexahydrocannabinol , a cannabinoid processed through hydrogenated THC, or the addition of hydrogen to the THC molecule. HHC produces a similar effect to Delta 9, with some users providing anecdotal evidence of energizing and uplifting effects similar to the sativa plant.

Many people are under the false impression that CBD (cannabidiol) does not show up on a drug test, however the reality of CBD and drug testing is more complex. The essential difference is between broad-spectrum CBD vs full-spectrum CBD.

Broad-spectrum CBD is a type of CBD extract that contains a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other beneficial compounds found in the cannabis plant, but contains NO THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). The exclusion of all forms of THC allows users to consume CBD, while being undetectable in most drug tests. Due to the lack of cannabinoids present in broad-spectrum CBD, it is not as effective as full-spectrum CBD. This can be explained by the entourage effect.

Full-spectrum CBD is a type of CBD extract that contains all the naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, essential oils, and trace amounts of THC. The inclusion of very small amounts of THC, typically less than 0.3%, can cause you to fail a drug test. Although full-spectrum CBD is detectable to most drug tests, the benefits of the entourage effect allows users to receive the most effective CBD experience.

Delta-8 THC can show up on a drug test designed to detect THC metabolites. While Delta-8 THC is a different form of THC than Delta-9 THC, which is the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis, it can still produce similar metabolites that are detectable in drug tests.

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) and Delta-9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) can both show up on a drug test designed to detect THC metabolites.

If you are concerned about THCA or Delta-9 THC showing up on a drug test, especially if you are subject to drug testing for employment or legal reasons, it’s advisable to be cautious with cannabis use and consider using THC-free broad-spectrum CBD products or abstaining from cannabis use before testing to minimize the risk of a positive result.

Cannabis-derived terpenes are aromatic compounds found in cannabis plants that contribute to their distinctive aroma, flavor, and effects. Terpenes are not exclusive to cannabis; they are also found in various fruits, herbs, and other plants, where they play roles in supporting plant health.

Cannabis-derived terpenes are found naturally within the plant can be extracted and used in various products, including CBD oils, vape cartridges, edibles, and topicals. Terpenes, along with cannabinoids like CBD and THC, contribute to the entourage effect, where the combined action of multiple cannabis compounds enhances the overall experience.

Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid are terms used to describe the three main types of cannabis plants based on their physical characteristics, effects, and genetic lineage. Here’s a description of what each term means:

Sativa – sativa plants are often associated with uplifting, energizing effects that can promote creativity, focus, and productivity. Many users find Sativa strains beneficial for daytime use or activities that require mental stimulation.

Indica – indica strains are known for their relaxing, sedative effects that can induce feelings of calmness, euphoria, and physical comfort. Users often choose Indica strains for evening or nighttime use to unwind, potentially alleviate stress and pain, and improve sleep quality.

Hybrid – refers to cannabis strains that are a crossbreed of Sativa and Indica plants, resulting in a combination of characteristics and effects from both parent strains. Hybrids can vary widely in terms of their physical appearance, cannabinoid profile, and effects, depending on the specific genetics and breeding techniques used. Hybrid strains can offer a balanced experience that combines the uplifting and creative effects of Sativa with the relaxation and relief of Indica. They are popular among users seeking a balanced experience tailored to their unique preferences.

Legal

The legal foundation for the hemp-derived cannabis products, including those like ours featuring THCa, Delta-8 THC, and Delta-9 THC, can be traced back to the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, commonly known as the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill legalized the cultivation and sale of hemp and hemp-derived products containing less than 0.3% THC (the psychoactive compound in cannabis) on a federal level. This legislation marked a significant shift, distinguishing hemp from marijuana.

Therefore, hemp-derived cannabis offers the same effects and results as marijuana-based cannabis, while being locally and federally compliant in North Carolina.

At Dogwood, one of our top priorities is to source organic, lab-tested products from the most reputable companies in the hemp industry. Each lab test comes with a full panel certificate of analysis. A full list of lab tests can be found Here.

Yes, but even though these products are federally compliant, individual states may have their own regulations about purchasing or using hemp-derived products, and these are subject to change. Please check you states local regulations, or refer to “Where does Dogwood Dispensary offer shipping?” above.
